Interventional Radiology

Interventional Radiology procedures are performed by radiologists in two ways: vascular (related to vascular) and nonvascular (related to extravascular organs). Vascular interventions are also divided into neurovascular (related to the brain vessels) and peripheral vascular (related to the vessels of organs other than the brain). Most of the procedures are performed under local anesthesia, along with the imaging devices mentioned above, with the help of a wire, catheter or special needle that runs through the small incision or vein on the skin. Treatment can also be applied at the same time in diagnostic procedures.

Diagnosis and treatment methods performed in our Interventional Radiology Department:

Nonvascular procedures:

+ Foreign body removal

+ Drainage procedures for abscess, abdominal and lung fluids

+ Marking

+ Catheter placement procedures for enlargement of bile ducts and kidney canal structures

+ Hepatobiliary interventions

+ Urinary system interventions

+ Vacuum biopsy for diagnosis and complete removal of breast lumps

+ Thick and fine needle biopsies for liver, kidney, pancreas, breast and soft tissue masses

+ Needle biopsy for thyroid nodules and ablation therapy using RF (radio frequency)

+ Kidney cyst drainage treatment

+ Cyst maintenance treatment

+ Stent and balloon expansion treatments for stenosis in the common bile duct

+ RF (radio frequency) ablation therapy for cancer masses

+ Tumor treatments (ablation)

Vascular procedures:

Neurovascular processes:

+ Demonstration and treatment of Aneurysm (bubble in brain vessels)

+ Demonstration of stenosis in neck and brain vessels; balloon and stent expansion therapy

+ Thrombolysis (clot melting) treatment in vein occlusion

+ Demonstration and treatment of Arteriovenous malformations and Arteriovenous Fistula (AVM and AVF)

Peripheral vascular processes:

+ Placing a filter to prevent embolism in the main veins

+ Temporary and permanent catheter insertion in dialysis patients

+ Dialysis and venous access routes

+ Vena cava filter placement

+ Chemoembolization / Radioembolization

+ Venous sampling

+ TIPS (trans jugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt)

+ Varicose vein treatment

+ Demonstration of stenosis and blockages in arm and leg veins; balloon and stent expansion therapy

+ Acute vein occlusion treatment

+ Demonstration of aortic segments and aneurysm treatment

+ Embolization (occlusion) treatment in patients with sputum with blood due to lung vessels

+ Chemoembolization therapy for arteries feeding cancer masses

+ Demonstration of bleeding vessels and embolization treatment in trauma-related bleeding

+ Treatment of stenosis and obstructions in fistulas in dialysis patients

+ Demonstration of intestinal vessels and emergency congestion treatment

+ Arterial embolization therapy for fibroids in the uterus

+ Varicocele treatment

+ Embolization treatment in prostate gland enlargement

+ Treatment of fibroids in women

+ Treatment of congenital / acquired vascular malformations and hemangiomas

+ Chronic pelvic pain or varicocele treatments
