  • What is labiaplasty?
  • Labiaplasty is a surgery performed to reduce the inner lips (labia minora), which is one of the female external genital organs, and to have a more beautiful appearance. The aim of this surgery is to prevent the inner lips from hanging out while the woman is standing in a legs closed position.


  • Who is it done to?
  • The inner part of the female genital area is known as the small lips (labium minus), and the outer part as the large lips (labium majus). The inner lip part, which normally stays inside and should not come into contact with the clothes, is congenitally sagging in some women. This condition, known as labial hypertrophy, often causes vaginal infection in women, as well as causing discomfort, hygiene, painful sexual intercourse, embarrassment and lack of self-confidence during sexual intercourse. Labiaplasty surgery is performed on women who experience this problem. Labial hypertrophy is mostly congenital, but it can also occur as a result of accidents or difficult births.


  • How is labiaplasty surgery performed?
  • Labiaplasty surgery is performed under general or local anesthesia. The technique to be used in the surgery is determined by the structure of the inner lips of the patient. In the operation, the protruding part of the inner lips is cut and removed. Incision can be done with a scalpel or with a laser.


  • What should be considered before labiaplasty surgery?
  • + In terms of hygiene, make sure that your surgery does not come in your menstrual period.
  • + Physician should be informed about the treatment under use.
  • + In case of having cold, or flu just before the procedure, kindly patient should directly inform the physician.
  • + In case of requested blood tests and examinations, patient is required to do not delay them until last days before surgery.
  • + Blood thinners like aspirin should be avoid one week before the surgery.
  • + Smoking and alcohol should be stopped two weeks before the surgery.
  • + Patient should be fastening for six hours before the procedure. And the least amount of water should be consumed.


  • How long does labiaplasty surgery take?
  • The labiaplasty surgery, which is an extremely easy operation, is completed within 30 minutes.


  • What awaits me after the surgery?
  • Labiaplasty surgery does not require an overnight staying in hospital, the patient is discharged on the same day. No need to take stitches as self-melting stitches are used. Sutures are removed within 10 days. There is no need for dressing either. The cleaning of the genital area is provided with hygiene pomades. There may be a slight swelling in the operation area. However, the swelling goes down within 10 days at the latest.
  • Is it a painful surgery?
  • There may be pain for 2-3 days after the operation. Pain can be controlled with medication.


  • When is the best time for surgery?
  • Labiaplasty surgery can be done in all seasons. However, it is advantageous to choose a season other than summer, as swimming in the sea and pool will be restricted for a while.


  • What should be considered after the operation?
  • - Use the medicines prescribed by your physician carefully and regularly.
  • - Pay attention to the cleanliness of your genital area. After doing your big toilet, do the cleaning from front to back. Keep your genital area dry.
  • - Swimming in the sea, pool and sauna should be restricted for a month.
  • - Applications of wax, laser epilation, razor blade should be avoided in the genital area for a month.
  • - Sexual intercourse should be restricted for a month.
  • - Loose and comfortable underwear are preferred instead of tight ones and clothes in order to reduce the discomfort in the genital area.
  • - Tampons should not be used for a month.
  • - Shower may be taken one day after the surgery. Taking shower is preferred instead of sitting in the bathtub.
  • - Ice and cold can be applied to the surgery area to reduce pain and swelling.
  • - Activities like motorcycling, cycling or horse riding should be avoided for a month.
  • - Any type of sports, including some activities like yoga, Pilates, should be avoided for a month.


  • When can I go back to normal life?
  • You can start working the day after the surgery. However, a week of rest is recommended. You can return to your normal life after a month.


  • Any scars will be formed after surgery?
  • Since the stitches are placed in the inner part of the genital area, there is no any kind of stitches scars formation.


  • Will I develop a loss of sexual sensation after the operation?
  • There is no loss of sensation resulted from the labiaplasty surgery. In cases where the clitoris needs to be reduced, the procedure should be done very carefully. For this reason, it is very important that the surgery is performed by a specialist.
